These are all of the previous Anime-Viewing blog posts where I would post before the initial blog. This is only for the old blog pre-view posts, new pre-view posts will be added to separate posts.
WEEK 2
For my next written review, I’m going to be watching “Expelled from Paradise.” This is a 2014 animated film, directed by Seiji Mizushima and is an action anime. As you may have noticed, for my written reviews I plan to focus on only movies as I tend to ramble on a bit as it is, writing about full seasons of a series may be a bit too much for a blog. I will also focus on anime not available on Funimation’s App, as to keep the flow of the podcast going smoothly. This film can be viewed on Netflix!
“Expelled from Paradise” is a science fiction action anime that follows a world where 98% of the human race has been “uploaded” into a digital world. The main character, Angela Balzac, is an agent of the space station DEVA which has been hacked and after attempts to find this hacker, Angela must go to Earth to track them down and stop them.
WEEK 3
This week I’m going to be watching, “In this Corner of the World.”
At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to review this film as I’m not the biggest fan of discussing politics, I prefer to just make my decisions on those type of things and keep them to myself but this film had something extra to it’s core, art. “In this Corner of the World” is a 2016 animated wartime drama, directed by Sunao Katabuchi. The story follows the life of a girl turned woman named Suzu, who lives during the time of WWII. It was co-released by Funimation Films in 2017 but it is not on the Funimation App. This film is based on the manga of the same name. There is an extended version of the film set to premiere December 20th, 2019, makes me think I should wait but I’ll update the blog when I see the new extended version. The blog this week may be a little short, I’m in bed with Pneumonia but I’m going to do my best to provide just as much rambling as the other before. 😅
WEEK 4
Welcome to the From A to .Hack Blog, it’s week 4! I hope y’all enjoyed last weeks blog, “In this Corner of the World” was great, I watched it twice after writing that post!
This week I’ll be watching “Mary and the Witch’s Flower”, a Ghibli-esque film that was released in Japan in 2017 and USA release was 2018.
“Mary and the Witch’s Flower” is an animated fantasy film! It was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who worked on several Studio Ghibli films, which is most likely why it was given such a Ghibli feel. We follow Mary Smith on an adventure when she finds a mysterious flower that makes her a witch for just one night. Mary finds herself in the sky learning about witches and having a day of mis-identity with her red hair and new skills.
There are many places to watch “Mary and the Witch’s Flower,” I’ll be watching on Netflix.
WEEK 5
For this week, I’ll be watching 009 Re:Cyborg, which was meant to be my first podcast but after much thought and I have really been enjoying writing on my blog! I plan to keep animated stand alone films and movies of series for the blog. For the podcast, I’ll be watching anime series, five season episodes per podcast episode to keep from being worn out on anime when I have Friends to watch before Netflix loses access to them.
009 Re:Cyborg is a film about a group of humans transformed into cyborgs by a corporation who planned to use them to do harm but they chose to follow a different path. 009 Re:Cyborg was directed by Kenji Kamiyama and is based on an manga named Cyborg 009 by Shotaro Ishinomori. The film was released in 2012 and the events are set in 2013, we’ll see how this goes since it’s now 2019.
WEEK 6
For this week, I’ll be watching 18if with a guest for the very first From A to .Hack podcast! It is a 2017 anime, directed by Koji Morimoto, it follows the life or should I say dreams of Haruto Tsukishiro. The anime series is 13 episodes long and around 25 minutes each. Main characters are Haruto, our hero, Lily, our mysterious dream world helper, and Kanzaki, our intelligent avatar cat friend. They are all in this dream world and while that may seem perfectly fine, they have to deal with dangerous witches to survive the dream world and wake back up.
That’s not all! I’ll also be watching Akira, a 1989 animated film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. It’s a post-apocalyptic film that I’ve had several people recommend but never took the time to watch it. Thankfully I started From A to .Hack so now I have an excuse to sit around watching anime I never thought I’d get around to turning on. The main character is the leader of a biker gang named Shotaro Kaneda after an attack destroys the Tokyo they knew, the city is rebuilt but now the city is suffering from a great deal of violence. (PS. I didn't finish Akira, this was during the time issues came about that kept me from continuing with the blog.)
